Halloween is a time for us to unwind a little and release our inner kid for the night. A time for kids to, well, be kids. With celebrations normally entailing a trick-or-treating extravaganza around your streets, or a spooky costume party late into the darkness. It seems this year will not be so simple. But Halloween just wouldn't be the same without a little celebration, right? We have had a sit down to look at how we can celebrate Halloween in 2020 whilst socially distancing. With the uncertainty around social gatherings, I have focused my writing around activities that can be done indoors. Read on for some great celebration ideas for colleagues, friends and family. So, what's first? Safety's first, you know that. When getting your spook on this year, there are a few fun ways to keep yourself protected and still have a creepily cool outfit to show off!
Wearing a mask has long been associated with Halloween costumes, there are plenty to choose from or why not print some spooky branded designs onto some printed face masks for a personalised touch.
If you are worried about touching the treats whilst celebrating, here are a couple of ways to help put your mind at ease. Cover up with Halloween themed gloves to complete your outfit and protect your hands at the same time. If glove grabbing your sweets still sounds a bit too close for comfort, you could use a grabber to pluck sweets without having to use your hands at all and maintaining a safer distance from other people.
Only take or give out sweets that are still in their wrappers whilst trick or treating this year.
Through the use of visual and written information, signs can be the perfect way to streamline Halloween celebrations this year, especially if you are trying to minimise contact. Powerful printed signage could be used to indicate you are operating a safe celebration and have simple notes or reminders for passers-by. Having these in your office space or around the house could add another layer of safety for the celebrations without ruining the atmosphere. Hospitality companies could benefit from the integrated use of printed signs to help with concerns such as crow control and social distancing.

Halloween really does bring out the spirit in people as every year they are happy to spend their own money to entertain the celebrations. This year trick or treating might not seem to be a feasible option but there is always away. Decorating a sweet wall/tree is a fun way to still engage with your community or office spirit by letting passers-by pick a premade sweet bundle. Simple signing saying that you are trying to operate a safe trick or treating can help to provide clarity of how it works and encourage people to join in.
An idea similar to this that I see rising in popularity is the Driveway sweet tables. These are essentially tables set at the end of peoples drives with sweets that can be taken by Trick or Treaters to prevent a group congregating in close proximities. While this is definitely a viable option, a tree could definitely be made creepier and works better for office environments.

Decorating a graveyard in your garden, house or office is a fun way to mix up decorating this Halloween and still get the excitement of walking around finding sweets. Adding clues to the mix can make it more interesting and personalised to keep it fun and challenging looking around the spooky trail.
Blood bobbing is an easy concept. Its apple bobbing with a little red food colouring in the water. Simple yet effective, especially for the little ones. Be sure to wear goggles for this to avoid getting the dye in your eyes.
You never know who might win the family fashion show. Could it be one of the parents in a silly oversized pumpkin suit or maybe the dog dressed with an extra 6 legs to be a spider? Have a go this year and compete against people anywhere in the world via video call or those inside your home, either way, the lounge is your stage, so take it! This is a great one for workmates to virtually compete and have some fun in a silly environment outside of work hours!
